CORIZZI Paul (1883-1953)
"Fisherman at the foot of the Capitello Tower in Corsica"
Oil on canvas,
Signed lower right,
Beautiful work by Corsican painter Paul Corizzi depicting a fisherman in his boat called "Saint François" at the foot of the Capitello Tower. This Genoese tower stands on the coast at the mouth of the Prunelli river, facing the Gulf of Ajaccio, at the northern entrance to Porticcio.
The artist takes particular care with the reflections on the water and giving depth to his work.
We can relate our work to a small watercolor by the artist with a similar subject (see illustration).
Student of painters François Corbellini and Jean-Baptiste Bassol at the Ecole d'Ajaccio, Paul Corizzi mainly portrayed typical views of Ajaccio, which he produced in watercolor almost in series and sold to the growing number of tourists in Ajaccio at the time of the development of mass tourism in Corsica, initiated by the PLM company.
Nb: Old restorations are to be noted, without incidence for the reading of the work.
Dimensions: 53.5 x 73 cm unframed and 75 x 93 cm with its beautiful and heavy carved and gilded wooden frame.
A small restoration, without incidence, is to be reported to the frame.
