  SIMONS Paul (1865-1932)

"Lively Street in Provence"

Oil on canvas,
Signed lower right.

A beautiful, luminous work by the Marseilles painter Paul Simons, depicting a lively street in Provence.
In the foreground, one can distinguish hens and a majestic rooster crowing, and in the background, the street bustles with a child and one of her parents.
As was his custom, the painter used a palette of pink and blue hues that perfectly capture the atmosphere of the place.

This work may be the painting exhibited by the artist at the 1924 Salon d'Automne in Paris under the title "Provençal Alley."

A student of Luc Olivier Merson and Jean-Paul Laurens, Paul Simons exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1886 to 1897. His submissions of Mediterranean landscapes, with tones varying according to the seasons and times of day, were praised by critics.
In 1902, Paul Simons was Appointed official painter of the navy.

Dimensions: 56 x 46 cm unframed and 72.5 x 63 cm with its original wooden frame.
