HURARD Joseph (1887-1956)

Beautiful and large work by the Avignon painter Joseph Hurard which represents a view of the mill of Daudet in Fontvieille animated by a shepherd and his sheep.
The artist was able to transcribe the atmosphere of a late summer day by using bright colors and playing on contrasts.

A pupil of Pierre Grivolas and Charles Vionnet in Avignon, Joseph Hurard exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants from 1908 to 1914 many landscapes, notably of Avignon and Villeneuve-les-Avignon. He joined the Group of Thirteen founded by Clément Brun.
After the First World War, he exhibited in galleries in Marseille.
In 1932, he settled in Martigues. site he has been painting since 1913.

Dimensions: 49.5 x 92 cm without its frame and 73 x 115 cm with its original montparnasse frame.
