Jane ROUQUET (1879-?) 

"Bouquet of Flowers"

This beautiful, luminous, and colorful work by the female artist Jane Rouquet, originally from the Aude region, depicts a bouquet of flowers on a tabletop in a post-Impressionist style, reminiscent of the painter Achille Laugé (1861-1944). 
The details are meticulous, and the colors are harmonious. This work will find its place in any interior, even the most modern. 

We have little information about this talented painter, born in 1879 in Carcassonne and active at the beginning of the 20th century. The daughter of the engraver, journalist, and director of the "Revue Méridionale," and the French poet Achille Rouquet, Jane collaborated with her brother Auguste in creating wood engravings for their father. As a family, they illustrated and engraved works by Auguste Fourès and Prospérassions Estieu. 
Contemporary critics recognized her as "a painter of real talent." 
In 1908, she exhibited two works, "Le Campestre" and "Vue de mer," at the Galerie du Capitale.
Around 1915, her father settled permanently in Paris with his children, Jane and her brother, Auguste. Jane Rouquet participated in exhibitions in Parisian galleries, notably in 1912 at the Galerie Max Rodrigues, and in the artistic Salons of the time (Salon des Indépendants of 1912: works on the theme of flowers). 

We can mention two other works by the artist that were sold at Bonhams in April 2025: 
- "Gardens in Bloom, 1907," dimensions 32 x 40 cm - sold for £2,304
- "Trees on the Coast," dimensions 32.4 x 40.5 cm - sold for £1,216. 

Note: There are some very minor old retouchings, which do not affect the work. 

Dimensions: 38 x 46 cm unframed and 48 x 56 cm with its original giltwood frame (a few discreet retouchings to the frame's gilding are present).
