Beautiful work of the Toulon painter, Ferdinand Louis Jourdan which represents an animated view in Saint-Tropez and more specifically in the Tour-Vieille district.
The Tour-Vieille built in the 15th century in the Ponche district was used to monitor access by sea.
Born August 30, 1851 in Toulon, Louis Ferdinand Jourdan married September 18, 1886 in Toulon with François Joséphine MArgueritte Frojo with whom he had a child. His friend the painter Vincent Courdouan will be presetn at their wedding.
A pupil of Vincent Courdouan in Toulon, he obtained the 1st mention during an exhibition in Aix en Provence in 1895. He joined to local artistic life by participating in various exhibitions and by presenting landscapes and seascapes.
He became curator of the Museum of Fine Arts in Toulon from 1904 to 1908 and also an Academy Officer.
In addition to his artistic career, Ferdinand Louis Jourdan is a lawyer by profession and honory judge at the Cour First Instance of Toulon.
I died on May 12nd, 1909 in Toulon.
These works are preserved in various museums such as the Maritime Museum in Toulon "The port of Toulon, the visit of the Russian squadron, 1982".
This work is a beautiful testimony to the end of the 19th century in a district of Saint-Tropez.
Size: 53 x 100 cm without frame and 89 x 135 cm with its imposing 19th century gilt wood frame.
