Beautiful luminous work with plays of light, by one of the masters of Provençal painting, François Nardi, which represents an animated view of the port of Toulon taken most certainly from the Quai du Parti.
In the foreground, we can see a general view of the port of Toulon with fishermen in their boats moored at sea near the quay. The second plan offers us a view of the city of Toulon and the Cronstadt quay.
The artist has a total mastery of the plays of light which wonderfully transcribes the light of a summer day.
This exceptional work by the painter François Nardi is a beautiful testimony to the liveliness of the port of the city of Toulon at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century.
We can compare our work to another painting by the artist, entitled "The port of Toulon, in the morning", kept at the Museum of Fine Arts of the city of Toulon.
Our work can be compared to the works presented at the Salons of 1890, 1893, 1904 by the artist.
Born to Italian parents, François Nardi was naturalized French. A student of the painter Frédéric Montenard then of William Bouguereau, Tony Robert-Fleury, François Flameng and Gabriel Ferrier at the Académie Julian in Paris. In 1907, he left Paris and moved to Toulon.
He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français, at the Salon des Indépendants from 1892 to 1895 and participated in numerous exhibitions in the provinces: Marseille, Lyon, Nice, Toulouse ...
His luminous and meticulous palette earned him several mentions and awards during his participation in the Salons.
His work, close to the Impressionists, is praised by critics and collectors.
His painting is characterized by vibrant touches of color allowing to transcribe the light of Provence and to express poetry in his works.
His works are kept in several public collections and private collections in France and abroad.
