This beautiful, poetic work by the Cannes painter Louis Pastour depicts a bouquet of flowers in a vase, perhaps zinnias. The artist uses a palette of pure colors and plays on contrasts to accentuate the power of his composition. 

A factory worker by day and a student in the evenings at the School of Decorative Arts in Nice and later Paris, he exhibited for the first time at the age of 45. In 1902, he founded the Cannes Fine Arts Association with a group of workers passionate about art, of which he was the general secretary. 
Through this association, painters from the region were showcased through an annual exhibition. A painter of light with complete mastery of color, Louis Pastour uses the palette knife technique to bring his works to life. 

Recognized by critics as a painter-poet because of the poetic titles he gives his works: Fête de soleil (Feast of the Sun), Reflets d'or (Golden Reflections), Gloire au matin (Glory to the Morning)... 

Dimensions: 45.5 x 37.5 cm unframed and 59 x 50.5 cm with its original giltwood frame.
