"Valley of the Sarthe towards Alençon, 1893"

Oil on canvas,
Signed and dated 1893 lower right,
Titled by the artist on the back on the frame: "Valley of the Sarthe towards Alençon, morning effects ...?... ",

Beautiful luminous work by the French painter Mary Renard which represents a landscape animated by a character on the path in the Valley of the Sarthe towards Alençon.
As usual, the artist plays on the play of light and uses a palette of colors in keeping with the current season.
The artist also animates his compositions with a character very often holding a fishing rod.

After the war of 1870, Mary Renard chose to go and live in Alençon.
A pupil of the Avignon painter Paul Saïn, he participated from 1880 to 1904 in the Salon of French Artists where he presented views of the Orne and the Mayenne.
He regularly painted the banks of the Sarthe at Saint-Céneri throughout the seasons.
In 1910, Mary Renard became curator of the Alençon Museums and founded the Société des Amis des Arts.

Dimensions: 38 x 55 cm without frame and 52.5 x 69.5 cm with an original wooden frame.
