Work by the Avignon painter Auguste Roure which represents a Provençal garden animated by two characters walking among the cypresses and the olive trees.
This garden is most certainly located in Villeneuve lez Avignon or Les Angles where the artist liked to paint his landscapes.
Apprentice engraver in a printing house in Avignon, he was encouraged by his brother and entered the city's school of fine arts. A student of Pierre Grivolas, he participated in the exhibitions of the Société Vauclusienne des beaux-arts and from 1908 frequented the Salon des Indépendants in Paris.
In 1919, he became a professor at the school of fine arts in the city of Avignon and led an international career, exhibiting in Tokyo (1926) and New York (1928) as well as in Geneva, Melbourne and London.
Dimensions: 38 x 55 cm without frame and 53 x 61 cm with its modern gilded wood frame.
