VINARDEL Pascal (1951-)

"La chambre bleu / The Bleu Room"

Oil on panel,
Signed lower right,
Around 1984,
Old exhibition number "13" on the back,

This work was part of "a series of very formal works, playing with the materiality of painting, on the edge of abstraction, and dealing with "construction sites" or interiors."
The artist uses mixed media in the creation of his composition: oil, paper collage, and panel support.

Born on April 29, 1951 in Casablanca, into a family of intellectuals and musicians, Pascal Vinardel turned to painting very early on. Returning to France in 1965, he was admitted to the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he graduated in 1972.
After winning several awards, he was accepted into the Casa Velasquez competition in 1974.
Back in Paris after a two-year stay in Madrid, he met his first dealers, and important collectors began to notice his work.
Rarely exhibiting, Pascal Vinardel established a reputation as a secretive painter, far removed from the fashions of his time and producing little.
From 1994 to 2000, he ran a painting workshop at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris.
After a ten-year stay in the southwest of France, he returned to Paris in September 2006, now dividing his time between the city and the countryside.
In 2013, Pascal Vinardel was named Chevalier des Arts & des Lettres.
